Katie Howard - Current
Katie Howard is a native of Salisbury, NC; she graduated from East Rowan High School before attending UNC Greensboro to study Music Education. She is a trumpet player and has performed in the 2017 US Army All American Marching Band, and the Honors Performance Series Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. While at UNCG, she performed in the UNCG Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, University Band, and the UNCG Pep Band, "The Bands of Sparta". She was a selected quarterfinalist in the National Trumpet Competition Small Ensemble Division with UNCG and founded an all women's brass quintet called, "Minerva Brass" with the goal of uplifting young women as brass musicians.

Malik Barrows
Daniel Trivette
A Salisbury native, and a graduate of both East Rowan High School and Western Carolina University, Mr. Trivette served as the Director of Bands at West Rowan for 13 years. Ensembles under his direction consistently placed well at contest, earned several awards for “Grand Champion” and “Esprit de Corps” on the field, and received multiple “Superior” ratings at MPA. His students have continued on to perform in All-County and All-District Bands, collegiate honor bands, the US Army All-American Marching Band, Honors American Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, collegiate music programs, Phantom Regiment, Carolina Crown, professional symphony orchestras, as touring and studio musicians, and several are now music educators themselves. Active as an educator, performer and arranger, he has also worked with elementary, middle, high school and collegiate music programs as well as their leadership teams. While living in Salisbury, he served as an assisting musician at St. John’s Lutheran Church (contemporary and traditional worship services) and accompanied multiple choral groups, including: the Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society, Salisbury Concert Choir, Rowan-Salisbury Elementary Honors Chorus, and the St. John’s Men’s Chorus. Additionally, he performed with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra for 15 years.

Dr. David Cernuto
Dr. Cernuto earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from the University of Iowa and his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. His major teachers include Mark Heidel, Kevin Kastens, David Waybright, Joyce Davis, Russell Robinson, and Tim Brophy. Dr. Cernuto’s professional affiliations include the College Band Director’s National Association, the National Band Association, Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association, the National Association for Music Education and Kappa Kappa Psi. After leaving West Rowan, he served as director of bands at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma from 2006-2009.

Tammy Reyes
Joshua Potter
A native of Burlington, NC, Joshua Potter began his teaching career at West Rowan High School where he introduced full season competitive marching band and the band earned the first recorded superior rating at state band festival in the school's history. After leaving West Rowan, he served as director at Wakefield, Charlotte-Catholic and Providence High Schools. Mr. Potter serves as adjudicator and clinician for marching and concert bands throughout North and South Carolina. He also enjoys doing drill design and consultation for marching bands as well. In addition, he serves as a Winter Guard General Effect judge for the Atlantic Indoor Association and other circuits throughout the country

Joey Dunleavy
Ron Turbyfill
Ron was a 1975 graduate of West Charlotte High School and a 1979 graduate of East Carolina University where he received a Bachelor of Music. He continued his education with degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1988 with a Master of Music and in 1997 with a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction.
On May 26, 1979, Ron married Kim Lee, the love of his life. During their 42 years together, they were devoted to each other and to their two sons, Lee and Lane. Ron was an educator all his life. He was the Band Director at West Rowan High School from 1979 to 1994. He was Assistant Principal at North Rowan Elementary (RSSS) and Pleasant Garden Elementary (GCS). He served as Principal at Sedgefield Elementary in Greensboro and returned to Rowan County to open Southeast Middle School. He also served as Principal at South Rowan High School and retired from Hanford Dole Elementary. After retiring, Ron received certification for Exceptional Children and taught at Nazareth Children’s Home, Kannapolis City Schools Alternative High School, A.L. Brown High School, and Hickory Ridge High School. In his last position, Ron served as Executive Director of Communities in Schools of Rowan County, after serving as Board Chair for many years. Ron was a devoted musician and shared his love of Christ through his music. Over the years he served as Choir Director at Enon Baptist Church in Salisbury, Shiloh Reformed Church of Faith, Saint James Lutheran Church in Rockwell, and Christ United Methodist Church of Salisbury. Ron was very proud of all his bands. In 2000, Ron organized the Rowan Big Band All-Stars, a 19-piece big band in the style of Glenn Miller and Count Basie. This band is dedicated to performing for local charities in the community. In 2019, Ron planned the first ever Rowan-Salisbury All-County Jazz Ensemble, which rehearsed with clinician Wally West and performed at Salisbury High School. |
